Hello, world!

So, long story short: I disappeared from dA and most of my other sites for several months because I was concentrating on school (and it paid off btw - all A's, yo!) and then a bunch of real life stuff landed on me all at once (including a new niece, which is yay!). Some of it was not good, but fortunately it's worked out, and I'm in a small bit of a break before autumn classes start (ugh when does it endddd) right now.

So, I've been drawing a lot lately and trying to get my secret projects up to date so I can start sharing them here and there. My digital drawing skills have definitely improved over the months, even though I didn't have much time to be creative these last few months. But I'll be uploading some more stuff!

Also, commissions are most definitely still open - GO HERE FOR MORE INFO: tamsthegenkiqueen.deviantart.c…

I'll do another journal soon-ish, because my bills have been stupid lately and I need to make some extra money, so I may do a round or two of $5 commissions, character busts or something. Let me know if you or anyone you know may be interested! (They'll be through Paypal only).

Later!

Hello, folks!

I've finally decided to open up commissions.

Now, I don't have a huge following or anything. Probably far from it! But I am confident that you guys think I draw some pretty things and would like a pretty thing or two of your own, maybe. :) I need to make some extra money while I pay off stuff and buy necessary things, and I'm running a bit low. I'd also like to think that drawing other peoples' characters or ideas will give me a good bit of practice and variety in my work!

Here's my prices:

• $5 for plain sketches of character busts (with flat colors). And by bust, I mean 'from the shoulders up'.

$10 for full-figure character sketches (with flat colors).
$15 for shaded, colored sketches with simple backgrounds (textures/colored lighting) or no backgrounds.
$30 for illustrations with color, shading/lighting, and detailed backgrounds.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

- Character busts/full-figure sketches with flat colors/mild shading: img9.imageshack.us/img9/1396/c…
- Full-figure drawings/other with colors, shading, lighting, and simple/no backgrounds: img812.imageshack.us/img812/59…
- Full illustrations with color, detail, shading/lighting, and backgrounds: img839.imageshack.us/img839/67…

Here's the rules/info:

Single characters only. If you want a picture with two characters, it is an additional $5 to the original price. Just keeps things simple and manageable for me!

Maximum number of commissions per person: two. I say this only because I am not expecting to be flooded with requests, so for now it's two. In the case of the $30 full illustrations, only one per person.

• These will be digital commissions. I'll send you a digital file when finished, high-resolution and original working size, so you can resize it or whatever you would like!

Because it is the easiest way of transaction for me and most folks, I'm gonna say payment by way of Paypal only. If you absolutely can't do Paypal for whatever reason, we can figure out another way!

• Keep your requests in the PG to PG-13 range, please :) If you are requesting an original character of yours, or a character that may be obscure, please provide a bit of reference imagery for me? The more, the better!

How it works: it'll go in order of first-come-first-serve, and I'll send you a private message, whether it be through Livejournal, deviantART, or email (whichever is most comfortable for you!) and will give you my Paypal info. Message me back with your request (and plenty 'o reference, if you can :) ) and I'll start drawing your commission! I will send you the refined red lines of your sketch to make sure you approve/see if you want me to make any changes, and once you approve, you can go ahead and send in payment while I finalize your drawing. Sketches and colored sketches and busts will take about two days. Anything more than that may take about a week.

On that note: if for some reason you need to cancel your commission, please send me a note to let me know! I know stuff happens sometimes and you can't dole out the money, I understand :) Just let me know. If I note you to confirm your commission and there is no answer after five days, I'll go ahead and cancel.

Oh, also! When you message me with your request, please let me know this:

• Do you want your commission done in a certain style? I can do a few different styles other than my natural one, so please let me know if you, say, want a drawing in the style of my Beatles picture, a la this</i>: fav.me/d3089pp

If you know anyone who may interested in a commission in my style, please spread the word around :)

I hope very much that at least someone is interested, and that I can draw you some pretty things. :) I do have a lot of real-life stuff going on, including other drawing work that I will be working on simultaneously, but I assure you: I will finish your commission in a timely and professional manner. You're paying me to render you a service, and by George, it'll be the best dang service I can render! Literally. Ahaha. Render. Like when you draw. See what I did there?

Also, I think it is important to mention that I typed this all up while listening to 'Water Temple' from the soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: ocarina of Time on loop. Extremely important.

One of those got your attention, I'm sure. I really am just awfully amused by the idea of a 'zesty' emoticon. Who doesn't want to feel zesty at some point in their lives? Like a crouton!

I got sick of seeing my old journal, so here is a new one! Not much to talk about, but for starters, I will be a tool and make a pointless list of:

The Top Ten Fads I Don't Get/Like/Care About And Probably Never Will, Proving What An Old-Fashioned Fuddy-Duddy/Whiny Bitch I Am
(because what is the internet, if not a home base for apathy and needlessly long titles? :D)

1.) My Little Pony

WHY: Yes, it looks really cute! And normally, I'm sure I'd love the hell out of it and draw flat-hooved colorful ponies. I used to love the original as a kid! But…as cute as it looks, even having seen a few clips of it, I'm just not invested enough to care. Aside from that, there's fanart of it floating around all over the place, and my tendency to become pretentious when something gets that popular has probably taken over, enabling me to be annoyed every time I see fanart of it popping up on the front page.

Which is pretty silly of me. They are awfully cute ponies. And I kind of want to draw the purple-haired one because I had a toy horse as a kid that was white with curly purple hair. :D

2.) Homestuck

WHY: Iiiiiiii just don't get it? I was intrigued by the idea of an interactive webcomic, but could only get through a few pages before getting bored and moving on. It's just not in me to like pixels that much.

3.) Pokemon

WHY: When I was eleven, I loved Pokemon. It was alright and it bugged the hell out of my parents, who were (thankfully) nice enough to tolerate my childhood obsession with it.

But. Why is it still around? Did it get a reboot already? I'm so confused.

4.) Adventure Time

WHY: Again, I just. I don't know. I don't get it because I'm not cool enough. *sobs*

5.) Vampires

WHY: This fad should have ended with Anne Rice's Christian revelation. I am so sick of seeing vampires all over my TV. Okay, yeah, they're sexy and mysterious and taboo and dangerous, and girls like that sometimes. But. Really? Hasn't the novelty worn off yet? There are way cooler supernatural creatures people could be writing about! What about creatures in Chinese mythology or something? There is totally potential in that.

As for my feelings on Twilight….Mr. Nostalgia Critic here sums up my feelings (and the feelings of millions of others) quite succinctly here.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIEJsf…

6.) Tumblr

WHY: Nothing against you Tumblrites out there. Tumblr's nifty and all, but it just seems like a messier version of Livejournal to me. And as an old fuddy-duddy, I will be sticking with my brand spankin' new rebooted LJ, thanks very much.

7.) iPhones

WHY: Okay, I know I'll get flack for this one. iPhones are cool! It's awesome if you need the thing and you're an adult who loves the organization of it. And it's all shiny and what not.

But….I see high schoolers carrying these things around! I see MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS with the things. In what world does a kid, even a teenager, have enough going on to require a frigging iPhone??

Maybe it's just me. I'm perfectly happy being an old grandma with my Razr, just calling and texting people. It's all I need. And I'm happy as a clam. :D

*is pelted with garbage*

8.) Films in 3D

WHY: Ugh, what a gimmick. I hate that directors will spend time and money on this more than important things like story. The one time I sat through a 3D film in theaters, it gave me a headache with nausea until I finally got used to it, half an hour in. No thanks.

9.) Music about the club/failed relationships

WHY: This is probably for another post entirely, but I miss hearing people's un-Autotuned voices, and guitars, and pianos, and a grand, rockin', Rolling Stonesy chorus about life and profound revelations. I don't need another electronically-altered wannabe singing about getting dirty up in the club with thumping bass and shit.

Also, I know love and its ups and downs are always one of the biggest inspirations in music, but…there are lots of other things in the world that one could write about. A. Lot.

10.) Cars that are programmed to follow voice commands that give you spoken Facebook updates as you drive

WHY: …..does this even need a 'why'?? How frigging wired are we now, that we need our vehicle to tell us what Suzie Q spilled on her shirt at Chipotle?

I'm sure that all got me some hate points, but honestly? Come at me, bro. THIS STUFF NEEDS TO BE SAID AT SOME POINT

In other news, I am dying, DYING, to finally post this juggernaut of a sketchdump that I've been working on all summer. It's for my comic Dualité, which is a genderbent retelling of Beauty and the Beast, set in early twentieth-century America. I have a feeling that I will put all this work into the sketchdump and it will get hardly any attention, so I may break it up into several deviations. I want very much to start getting the word out about this, it's my baby project :D

Also! A question for those of you who still cared enough to keep reading.

Would you ever like a commission by me?

I've never done commissions before, but I know how to go about it and would promise the best quality work that I can offer, in a timely and professional manner. What I want to know is, would any of you be interested, or know someone else who might be interested in a drawing in my particular style? Hit me up in the comments, yo!

Peace out, lovelies, I hope your day is going well :)

EDIT: Awww no 22,222 kiriban! No one claimed it! You all suck. Except for those of you that I love. Which is pretty much everyone. I am just not pageview whore-y enough. xD

Hey all!

No really big update right now, but I noticed I'm getting closer to 22, 222 pageviews, so!

If you catch my 22,222th pageview, message me and I will draw you something pretty of your liking. Or something ugly. Whatever floats your boat.

Not much at the moment, just very happy with the Aladdin fanart I just posted - somehow I got as close to the original style as I'm ever gonna get, so it's one of those wonderfully egotistical art moments where you can't stop looking at something you just drew until a few days have passed. xD That's what I get for watching the Aladdin Special Features on loop. (I am that cool.)

Also, I am working on a big ol' Dualité sketchdump, as well as a sketchdump of all the things I've been doodling in my lovely new hot pink sketchbook. Because apparently I am nine years old again.

Ta-ta for now!

Today is mine.

Today I am 23! Or, today I am two years away from being a quarter of a century old. Slight mindblower.

It feels especially weird because 23 is one of those indeterminable, placeholder birthdays that, when you're a kid, you imagine to be one of the first steps toward being old and decrepit. Which is awfully silly now. I remember being seven or eight and thinking that the junior high kids in a school scene from the movie Casper looked so very old and so very massive and grownup. Years later when rewatching the movie, I was startled by how teeny those kids actually were. What had eight-year-old me been thinking?!

Anyway! Today I requested off work to avoid the shittiness of working on my birthday that I had to deal with last year (after which I drove two hours to my folks' house, then an additional hour to get to my friend's house and collapsed on the couch the night before we had to drive five hours for vacation. despite the promise of beaches, it was the worst. birthday. ever.) Today, however, no! I shall sit gloriously on my ass, then drive to work to pick up my paycheck, gloat a little at my less fortunate coworkers, then scamper on out the door to treat myself to an expensive DVD, followed by birthday festivities later tonight and this weekend back home. :D

Also, my roommate is amazing and got me a plethora of nicely-wrapped gifts from The Disney Store (she knows me so well), including an application to that location, which is hiring.
