One of those got your attention, I'm sure. I really am just awfully amused by the idea of a 'zesty' emoticon. Who
doesn't want to feel zesty at some point in their lives? Like a crouton!
I got sick of seeing my old journal, so here is a new one! Not much to talk about, but for starters, I will be a tool and make a pointless list of:
The Top Ten Fads I Don't Get/Like/Care About And Probably Never Will, Proving What An Old-Fashioned Fuddy-Duddy/Whiny Bitch I Am(because what is the internet, if not a home base for apathy and needlessly long titles? )
1.) My Little Pony WHY: Yes, it looks really cute! And normally, I'm sure I'd love the hell out of it and draw flat-hooved colorful ponies. I used to love the original as a kid! But…as cute as it looks, even having seen a few clips of it, I'm just not invested enough to care. Aside from that, there's fanart of it floating around all over the place, and my tendency to become pretentious when something gets that popular has probably taken over, enabling me to be annoyed every time I see fanart of it popping up on the front page.
Which is pretty silly of me. They
are awfully cute ponies. And I kind of want to draw the purple-haired one because I had a toy horse as a kid that was white with curly purple hair.
2.) HomestuckWHY: Iiiiiiii just don't get it? I was intrigued by the idea of an interactive webcomic, but could only get through a few pages before getting bored and moving on. It's just not in me to like pixels that much.
3.) PokemonWHY: When I was eleven, I loved Pokemon. It was alright and it bugged the hell out of my parents, who were (thankfully) nice enough to tolerate my childhood obsession with it.
But. Why is it
still around? Did it get a reboot already? I'm so confused.
4.) Adventure TimeWHY: Again, I just. I don't know. I don't get it because I'm not cool enough. *sobs*
5.) VampiresWHY: This fad should have ended with Anne Rice's Christian revelation. I am so sick of seeing vampires all over my TV. Okay, yeah, they're sexy and mysterious and taboo and dangerous, and girls like that sometimes. But. Really? Hasn't the novelty worn off yet? There are way cooler supernatural creatures people could be writing about! What about creatures in Chinese mythology or something? There is totally potential in that.
As for my feelings on Twilight….Mr. Nostalgia Critic here sums up my feelings (and the feelings of millions of others) quite succinctly here.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIEJsf…6.) TumblrWHY: Nothing against you Tumblrites out there. Tumblr's nifty and all, but it just seems like a messier version of Livejournal to me. And as an old fuddy-duddy, I will be sticking with my brand spankin' new rebooted LJ, thanks very much.
7.) iPhonesWHY: Okay, I know I'll get flack for this one. iPhones are cool! It's awesome if you need the thing and you're an adult who loves the organization of it. And it's all shiny and what not.
But….I see high schoolers carrying these things around! I see MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS with the things. In what world does a kid, even a teenager, have enough going on to require a frigging iPhone??
Maybe it's just me. I'm perfectly happy being an old grandma with my Razr, just calling and texting people. It's all I need. And I'm happy as a clam.
*is pelted with garbage*
8.) Films in 3DWHY: Ugh, what a gimmick. I hate that directors will spend time and money on this more than important things like story. The one time I sat through a 3D film in theaters, it gave me a headache with nausea until I finally got used to it, half an hour in. No thanks.
9.) Music about the club/failed relationshipsWHY: This is probably for another post entirely, but I miss hearing people's un-Autotuned voices, and guitars, and pianos, and a grand, rockin', Rolling Stonesy chorus about life and profound revelations. I don't need another electronically-altered wannabe singing about getting dirty up in the club with thumping bass and shit.
Also, I know love and its ups and downs are always one of the biggest inspirations in music, but…there are lots of other things in the world that one could write about. A. Lot.
10.) Cars that are programmed to follow voice commands that give you spoken Facebook updates as you driveWHY: …..does this even need a 'why'?? How frigging wired are we now, that we need our vehicle to tell us what Suzie Q spilled on her shirt at Chipotle?
I'm sure that all got me some hate points, but honestly? Come at me, bro. THIS STUFF NEEDS TO BE SAID AT SOME POINT
In other news, I am dying, DYING, to finally post this juggernaut of a sketchdump that I've been working on all summer. It's for my comic Dualité, which is a genderbent retelling of Beauty and the Beast, set in early twentieth-century America. I have a feeling that I will put all this work into the sketchdump and it will get hardly any attention, so I may break it up into several deviations. I want very much to start getting the word out about this, it's my baby project
Also! A question for those of you who still cared enough to keep reading.
Would you ever like a commission by me?I've never done commissions before, but I know how to go about it and would promise the best quality work that I can offer, in a timely and professional manner. What I want to know is, would any of you be interested, or know someone else who might be interested in a drawing in my particular style? Hit me up in the comments, yo!
Peace out, lovelies, I hope your day is going well
