Description

I drew this months ago and couldn't figure out the best way to color it 'till now, so three cheers for me. Or boos for my lazy ass. :)

This is Romana "Romy" Gallo, a main character from my upcoming webcomic, Dualité - a retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in early twentieth-century America (Ohio, specifically). I'm still trying to figure her out - so far, she's a French-Italian stage actress living in the Midwest and hogging the limelight.

And yes, she has HUGE HAIR.

I love love love good lighting and I've always wanted to try a backlit figure like this, but I'm not sure if I pulled it off quite right. I like it, myself, but that's me. :)

EDIT: Whoops, almost forgot to credit the tutorial I used for the brick wall - owe SO much to =Prima-Donna! [link]

Backlighting seems hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's super easy, and you did a great job on this one. It's got a lot of mood in it, which I am a fan of. And you may not be able to "draw a brick to save your life" or whatever it is you claimed on facebook, but this is one snazzy-looking background. It's simple, but unobtrusive, and still manages to add to the atmosphere of the painting, which is the essential trick to doing backgrounds.

Therefor, I deem this a success! Tams wins!
